Daily Dhikr Summary
Daily Dhikr
1. In Sunan Abi Dawood and elsewhere it is narrated from Anas that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever says in the morning and the afternoon:
‘Allahumma inni asbahtu ushhiduka wa ushhidu hamalata ‘arshika wa malaa’ikataka wa jamee‘a khalqika annaka anta Allahu laa ilaaha illaa anta wa anna Muhammadan ‘abduka wa rasooluka
(O Allah, on this morning and I call upon You and I call upon the bearers of Your Throne, Your angels and all of Your creation to bear witness that You are Allah, there is no god worthy of worship except You, and that Muhammad is Your slave and Your Messenger),’
Allah will ransom one quarter of him from the Fire. Whoever says it twice, Allah will ransom half of him from the Fire; whoever says it three times, Allah will ransom three quarters of him from the Fire; and whoever says it four times, Allah will ransom him from the Fire.”
(Lataa’if al-Ma‘aarif p. 283).
2. Whoever says
Subhaan Allaah wa bi hamdih
(Praise and glory be to Allaah)
one hundred times, morning and evening, his sins will be erased even if they are like the foam of the sea.”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari (3293) and Muslim (2691) from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah.
Muslim (2692) narrated that Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever says in the morning and in the evening:
‘Subhan Allah wa bi hamdihi
(Glory and praise be to Allah)’
one hundred times, no one will come on the Day of Resurrection with anything better than what he has done, except one who said something like what he said, or more than that.
3. Al-Bukhaari (3292) and Muslim (2691) narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever says,
‘Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer
(there is no god worthy of worship except Allah alone, with no partner or associate. His is the Dominion and to Him be praise, and He is able to do all things)’
one hundred times in a day, will have (a reward) equivalent to freeing ten slaves, one hundred hasanaat (good deeds) will be recorded for him and one hundred sayyi’aat (bad deeds) will be erased from him, and he will be protected from the Shaytaan for that day until evening comes. No one can do anything better than what he has done except one who does more than that.”
who says “Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer” one hundred times in a day there is the hope of reward, virtue and ransom from the Fire, just as there is the same hope for the one who liberates a Muslim slave from enslavement. This was stated clearly by al-Qaadi ‘Iyaad (may Allah have mercy on him). See: Sharh an-Nawawi ‘ala Muslim (17/18).
Al-Bukhari (6040) narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever says
‘La ilaha ill-Allah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadir
(There is no god except Allah Alone, with no partner or associate; to Him belongs sovereignty, to Him be praise, and He has power over all things)’
one hundred times a day, he will have a reward equivalent to that of freeing ten slaves, one hundred good deeds will be recorded for him, one hundred bad deeds will be erased from his record, and that will be a protection for him from the Shaytan all that day until evening comes; and no one will bring anything better than what he has brought, except a man who does more than him.
4. It is narrated in a sound report from the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) that he offered the supererogatory Duhaa [mid-morning] prayer, then he followed it with istighfaar (prayer for forgiveness). It was narrated that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) prayed Duhaa, then he said:
“Allaahumma’ghfir li wa tubb ‘alayya, innaka anta at-Tawwaab ar-Raheem
(O Allah, forgive me and accept my repentance; verily You are the Acceptor of repentance, the Most Merciful)”,
and he repeated it one hundred times.
Narrated by al-Bukhaari in al-Adab al-Mufrad (619) and an-Nasaa’i in as-Sunan al-Kubra (9935); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani.
5. Ibn ‘Umar reported that the people counted for the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) when he recited one hundred times in one gathering:
“Raabi’ghfir li wa tubb ‘alayya innaka anta’l-tawwaab ul-ghafoor
(My Lord, forgive me and accept my repentance, for You are the Acceptor of Repentance, the All-Forgiving).”
(Reported by al-Tirmidhi, 3356. He said, This is a ghareeb saheeh hasan hadeeth).
6. Muslim (2726) narrated from Juwayriyah that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) left her house one morning after he had prayed Fajr, and she was in her prayer-place, then he came back after the forenoon had come, and she was still sitting there. He said: “Are you still as you were when I left you?” She said: Yes. The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “After I left you I said four words
three times, which if they were weighed against what you have said today, they would outweigh it:
‘Subhan Allahi wa bi hamdih ‘adada khalqihi wa rida nafsihi wa zinata ‘arshihi wa midada kalimatihi
(Glory and praise be to Allah, as much as the number of His creation, as much as pleases Him, as much as the weight of His Throne and as much as the extent of His words)’.”
7. According to a report narrated by at-Tirmidhi: “Whoever says three times when evening comes, ‘
A’oodhu bi kalimaat Allaah al-taammah min sharri ma khalaq
(I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of that which He has created)’,
no fever will harm him that night.”
No. 3604.
8. Abu Dawud (5081) narrated that Abu’d-Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whoever says, morning and evening,
‘Hasbi Allah, la ilaha ill-Allah, ‘alayhi tawwakaltu wa Huwa Rabb ul-‘Arsh il-‘azim
(Allah is sufficient for me, there is no god but He, in Him have I put my trust and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne)’,
seven times, Allah will suffice him against all that concerns him.
This is mawquf but comes under the heading of a marfu‘ report. Its isnad was classed as jayyid by Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn Baz (may Allah have mercy on him).
9. It was narrated that Abaan ibn ‘Uthmaan (may Allah be pleased with him) said, narrating from ‘Uthmaan ibn ‘Affaan who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) say: “Whoever says
‘Bismillah illadhi la yadurru ma’a ismihi shay’un fi’l-ard wa la fi’l-sama’ wa huwa al-samee’ ul-‘aleem
(In the name of Allah with Whose name nothing can harm on earth or in heaven, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing)’,
three times, will not be stricken with a sudden affliction until morning comes, and whoever says them when morning comes will not be stricken with a sudden affliction until evening comes.”
He said: Abaan ibn ‘Uthmaan was afflicted with paralysis and the man who had heard this hadith from him started looking at him. He said to him: Why are you looking at me? By Allah, I did not tell a lie about ‘Uthmaan and ‘Uthmaan did not tell a lie about the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). But the day which that (paralysis) befell me, I got angry and forgot to say them.
Narrated by Abu Dawood (5088).
It was also narrated by at-Tirmidhi in his Sunan (no. 3388) as follows:
“There is no one who says in the morning of every day and the evening of every night
‘Bismillah illadhi la yadurru ma’a ismihi shay’un fi’l-ard wa la fi’l-sama’ wa huwa al-samee’ ul-‘aleem
(In the name of Allah with Whose name nothing can harm on earth or in heaven, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing)’,
three times but nothing will harm him.”
At-Tirmidhi said: It is hasan saheeh ghareeb. It was classed as saheeh by Ibn al-Qayyim in Zaad al-Ma‘aad (2/338) and by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.
10. Ahmad (18967) narrated that the servant of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “There is no Muslim who says three time, when morning comes and when evening comes,
‘Raditu Billahi Rabban wa bil Islami dinan wa bi Muhammadin sall-Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallama Nabiyyan
(I am content with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) as my Prophet),’
but it will be incumbent upon Allah to make him content on the Day of Resurrection.”
Classed as sahih because of corroborating evidence by the commentators on al-Musnad.
11.Al-Bukhari (6040) narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever says
12.It was narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
“Whoever says
Subhan Allah il ‘azeem wa bi hamdihi
(Glory and praise be to Allah, the Almighty),
a palm tree will be planted for him in Paradise.”
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (3464) who said: This is a hasan saheeh ghareeb hadeeth, which we know only from the hadeeth of Abu’l-Zubayr from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him). And al-Mundhiri said (2/347): Its isnad (chain of transmission) is jayyid (good). It was classed as hasan (sound) by al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar in Nataij al-Afkar (1/104). It was classed as saheeh (authentic) by al-Albani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah (hadeeth no. 64).
